25 cents
So I was tabling yesterday for a food and clothes drive for Salvation Army, put together by my business club, SRB. It was an interesting day to say the least. As I sat behind the gigantic empty box, hopelessly I thought to myself...what a waste of time. Everyone who had passed by seemed to smile and tried to look straight ahead in some other direction to avoid the box. I was not in the mood for interaction that day. It has crossed my mind before that maybe I had become apathetic to the cause. Later that day, I was encountered by a man dressed in filthy shabby clothes rolling a cart full of miscellaneous things. He made eye contact with me and stopped to ask what type of food we were accepting. He said that he would buy some for us, with the little change that he had on him. So I smiled but I was a bit skeptical. An hour had passed and he came out of the store , He handed me a quarter and said "its the least I can do". I took it and said Thank you. I realized that I wasn't wasting my time even though I went home with only two cans of tuna and 25 cents.
